Following a purposeful visit to Anthropy
Having arrived back from our visit to
Anthropy last week we are pleased to have successfully contributed to this unique gathering of forward-looking leaders, and to have connected with many like-minded leaders equally passionate about creating a better Britain.
The Good Turns Foundation always takes time to listen, learn, connect, and collaborate, and last week was no exception. We had clear goals for our visit and all were successfully achieved, and much more besides.
For instance, we formally joined the National Strategy Project focused on deliberatively co-creating a future vision and strategy for the UK over the coming year - which aligns very well with the work we are doing.
We also joined another landmark Anthropy session, held on the last day, focused on meaningfully redefining leadership and building the foundations for an Anthropy accord on the future of leadership.
In this session I highlighted:
- Our work on embedding both values and purpose in the DNA of communities, organisations, institutions, and government.
- The Human Promise and explained its simplicity/power in embedding values into our everyday lives.
- The need to move from 'a statement on a wall' to 'a way of being' - i.e.
from 'purpose' to 'purposeful'('full of purpose').
Finally, I raised the issue around language with regard to leadership and management, and the fact that many educators (e.g. within business schools) do not seem to understand the fundamental differences between leadership and management. I highlighted how this needs to be tackled first when defining leadership (n.b. this is a key part of Purposeful Leadership and Purposeful Governance).
In summary a fantastic gathering. I met with many amazing leaders and emerging leaders who I've planned follow-up conversations with so together we can help co-create a better Britain.
