The Human Promise

I commit to The Human Promise. A commitment to myself to be all that makes us human and to invite everyone in the world to consider it too. This is the promise I've committed to:

THE HUMAN PROMISE

I promise to protect life,
in all its forms and fragile beauty.

I promise to seek and speak the truth,
and to live by it, even when it is difficult.

I promise to act with justice and compassion, so that none are abandoned or forgotten.

I promise to create and share hope,
through kindness, courage, and imagination.

I promise to repair what has been broken and to pass forward a living world rooted in care.

This is my promise.
This is our promise.
This is the promise of being human.

If we together commit to this promise, demonstrate this in our actions, and invite others to align with this ambition then we start to create a simple and profound way to turn things around and create a better future.

Some feel helpless and think nothing can be done. This does not have to be. In making this promise we collectively have both a simple and profound capacity to change our lives for the better - if we so choose. I took me a few moments to see why, then it dawned on me how profound The Human Promise is.

It renews hope and ambition, by rediscovering the values we as humans are inately born with. It also offers a unique ability to build agency, re-ignite people power, and provide an effective pathway to collectively regain control of our lives - through alignment and action.

This promise has the ability to make hope normal again, and the Good Turns Foundation will be supporting this by creating a number of cross-generational movements. For instance:

Gen A - Ambition, Alignment, Agency, Action

Gen H - Hope, Humanity, Harmony, Healing

Gen L - Life, Love, Liberty, Legacy

Which are all sub-movements of

Gen P - Purpose, People, Place, Planet

If you would like to commit to The Human Promise just as I have done then it's very simple - just make the promise to yourself today. You could also share your promise with others, let others see it in your daily actions, place a visual reminder on your fridge, and share the invitation with others too (if you so choose). Similarly, if you would like to join one of the above cross-generational movements to amplify your impact that's also simple too - just let us know which one you'd like to join!

This month I will be taking The Human Promise invitation to Anthropy - a gathering of over 2000 highly motivated leaders (from education, enterprise, charities, communities, and government) all committed to changing Britain (and our world) for the better - and this is just the beginning. This is part of our work - to help co-create a thriving, flourishing, Purposeful Britain and a Purposeful World.

If two of people we talk to in our day were to also accept the above simple invitation then the world could theoretically change things for the better in less than 33 days. Change does not need this to happen (only 1-2% would  create the change necessary), however it does show the profound power of people power!
