You LEAD PEOPLE and you MANAGE THINGS
Yet more re-enforcement of the above from Eric Partaker (CEO of the Year) and something I'd also independently concluded many years ago (e.g. it was subject of one of my posts earlier in the same week).
His post refers to the page in Mike Ettore's book entitled "Trust-Based Leadership" (see above) and Partaker goes on to point out the importance "to see people not as resources to be managed, but individuals to be led with purpose and care".
Leaders need to "create purpose-driven work", and says "your people are inspired when they understand how their contributions shape the bigger picture. Help them find meaning in their work and they will champion your business".
"Leadership is not just about achieving outcomes but about enriching the lives of those you lead".
And our work builds on this further. By
embedding Purpose into the DNA of the organisation and into every decision and action
an enterprise moves from being 'purpose-driven' to 'purposeful' ('full of purpose'). This movement is what we have built the foundations for, where Purposeful Boards, Executives, Leaders and Practitioners†
become Purposeful Ambassadors for the company, and much more besides.
Purposeful Organisations realise whilst 'Purpose' is a statement,
being 'Purposeful' is a 'way of being'.
