In the face of a deepening meta-crisis, we must ask ourselves: What kind of future are we heading toward - and what kind of future do we truly want?

The Future We Currently Foresee

Unless we act, the trajectory is troubling. We face mounting existential threats - environmental, social, technological. In our search for meaning, we get lost in comparison. In our longing for belonging, we retreat into virtual worlds (e.g. social media/likes). In our pursuit of financial gain and endless GDP growth we consume the very planet that sustains us. We're not just facing a climate crisis - we’re facing a societal crisis and a crisis of meaning & belonging. Looking ahead to the rise of AI and digital disconnection, these challenges will only deepen.

The Future We Can Choose

We envision a Purposeful Future - one where humanity flourishes and the planet thrives. A Purposeful Britain, and ultimately a Purposeful World, co-created by citizens, educators, leaders, and learners acting with a strong sense of purpose, and in the service of others & the greater good. A future built on hope, meaning, belonging, and the opportunity to flourish. A world where purpose is not a luxury, but a foundational necessity.

What Will It Take?

A fundamental shift. A new architecture of society rooted in purpose: Purposeful Leadership, Purposeful Governance, Purposeful Government, Purposeful Education, Purposeful Citizenship. These are not abstract ideals - they’re frameworks already emerging across all sectors.

Is It Happening?

Yes - and the momentum is building. Standards like BSI PAS 808 and the upcoming ISO 37011 are pioneering purpose-driven governance, launching soon in over 170 countries. We’re seeing purpose embedded across education, public policy, communities, and enterprise. However there's much more to do. Organizations aren’t just making clear their purpose - they're weaving purpose into their DNA, i.e. into every decision and every action. The Good Turns Foundation is at the forefront of this, i.e. the transition from being 'Purpose Driven' to becoming 'Purposeful' i.e. 'full of purpose'.

How Do We Accelerate This?

By uniting around a shared identity, mission, and purpose. We call it Gen P – Generation Purpose. 'Gen P' isn’t defined by age - it’s a mindset, a movement, a network. A cross-generational, cross-sector coalition of Purposeful Citizens, Purposeful Practitioners, Purposeful Learners, Purposeful Leaders, and Purposeful Storytellers. Together, Gen P will co-create a Purposeful World - a world where values are valued. A world where humankind prioritizes contribution over consumption. A world where success is measured by wellbeing and flourishing, not just GDP. A movement accelerating the transition to a thriving, sustainable, eco-centric world where humanity creates Eudaimonia and lives with Ikigai - a deep sense of meaning, fulfillment, and belonging.

We’re building this with forward-looking individuals, communities, institutions, and movements - e.g. Purposeful Universities and Students - who recognise the urgency of reimagining our systems from the ground up.
