Are we doing things the wrong way round?

Britain is hurting. We’re facing a meta-crisis - not just in our systems, but in our souls. A crisis of wellbeing, of trust, of connection. A loss of meaning. A loss of belonging. People are switching off, feeling hopeless, worn down, and left out.

Today I'm heading to an event (organised by Compass) with over 400 people attending, including Mayors, MP's, Think Tanks, Lobby Groups, and Journalists. The event is entitled CHANGE: HOW? a decade of Radical Renewal - and my message?

"Are we trying to do things the wrong way round?"

"Boosting growth to improve wellbeing? Instead of improving wellbeing to boost growth? We are currently languishing at the bottom of international league tables when it comes to mental health, wellbeing and human flourishing, and we're a negative outlier when it comes to 'drive and motivation'. Drive and motivation causally drives innovation, productivity improvement, and growth. Statistics show only 10% of the UK workforce are currently engaged/motivated by the work they do, and many have given up altogether. Conversely in world class Purposeful Organizations over 70% are motivated and purposefully engaged. That's a step change in drive, motivation, and engagement of over 600%. Should we now become purposeful, a PURPOSEFUL BRITAIN, and focus on growing drive, motivation, and wellbeing, the key drivers of economic growth?" ...

I've raised this with the Rt. Hon. Darren Jones MP, Chief Secretary to the Treasury, at a recent listening event. I've also discussed how we can collectively approach things differently, and purposefully, in a parallel message, and I'll be sharing more of our ideas/plans at today's event too ...
