Valuesthon 2026 Event:

Tackling Loneliness and Isolation Together

Thursday 15th October 2026

19.00-20.30 BST (UTC/GMT+1)

Online event (Zoom)

Event description:

Loneliness is one of the defining challenges of our time - but it doesn't have to be.

Despite living in the most connected era in human history, many people feel more isolated than ever. Social media offers us connection, yet for millions it has only deepened loneliness and isolation. The need for genuine connection, belonging, meaning and purpose is fundamentally human - and it's a need we can meet, together.

Join us for an interactive global workshop on World Values Day, where we'll move beyond the conversation and into action.

This is a space for young people, adults, and representatives from charities, education, and community organisations to come together - not just to talk about loneliness, but to share real experiences, learn from one another, and uncover practical, meaningful steps we can each take right now.

We'll explore what truly helps people feel seen and supported: including active listening, building meaningful relationships, finding mentors, connecting with communities, volunteering, social prescribing, and the quiet power of intergenerational relationships.

This is a participatory session - a conversation built on honesty, empathy, and collective wisdom - because the most powerful solutions often come not from experts, but from each other. You'll leave with one simple, concrete action you can implement immediately. Because change doesn't require a grand gesture. It starts with a single step.

The Human Promise guides us to repair what is broken and to build a world where no one feels abandoned or forgotten.

Matt Pain

As a 5 year old, I wanted to be a Greengrocer or a Shire horse. I have become neither. Instead, I've been a singer/songwriter, TV extra, fork-lift driver, PT and Massage Therapist, among others. A common thread has been a desire to heal and make life better for people. I call myself a Wisdom Connector - introducing capable, inspiring people to each other, and never afraid to ask the "dumb" questions.
